Like one of Eduardo Chillida’s sculptures this project is a contrast between open and solid, providing both generous public spaces and more private spaces for researchers.
The building’s structure is clad on the street side by a film of opalescent ceramic, and inside by a perforated reflective aluminium surface, a play of contrasting materials. At the heart of the block an atrium diffuses daylight and creates a meeting place that links with the city. A concentration of very specialised high-level scientific and technological research is housed here, which finds its expression in the building’s monumentality.
